Basically anxiety is a combination of uneasiness, fear, nervousness and unnecessary worry. For example fear is actually a short term negative feeling of some direct danger. On the other hand anxiety is a long term concept and hence frightening. A mild anxiety is bad and disturbing but there can be cases of severe anxiety. In such cases the anxiety disorder can be permanently or temporarily hindering with one’s quality of life.

Anxiety if taken in physical form, comprises of physical and emotional characteristics. Palpitations, high pulse rate, chest pains, headaches, feeling sick, dry mouth or severe perspirations are the consequences of high pulse rate and blood pressure. These physical conditions are associated with anxiety.

To define anxiety in psychological term it can be described as the abstract feeling of danger, an usual feeling of fear, irritability, detachment, insomnia and due to which feeling worn out all the time. Not all of these symptoms can be associated with anxiety but the intensity of these symptoms varies from person to person, from mild to severe.

Anxiety is the most common disorder found in today’s society and different people with this problem have different behavioral problem. For an instance, people suffering from GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) generally run their imagination and thought wild, feel restless, worry and feel anxious about every thing they meet everyday. This is a form of anxiety where the patient is extremely apprehensive.

Test anxiety is so much common among school and college students. General surveys have proved that more than have percentage of students have test anxiety which ranges from mild to severe. If you feel extremely worried and restless before attending a test then it means that you are a victim of test anxiety. This can also happen with professionals who have problems in facing new challenges and tasks assigned to them.

Students going through this hard phase of life may experience loss of control, low self esteem, insecure feeling as well as fear related to studies, teachers and parents. These feelings are projected as physical disorder like profuse sweating, nausea or increased heartbeat. Vertigo, agoraphobia and other phobias are also looked upon as a type of anxiety.

To conclude, anxiety does not have a clear definition as it is seen in different forms in different people. Even though the symptoms are similar, many forms of anxiety exist. The best way to deal with anxiety is to lead a stress free life and seek a professional help if the condition is serious.
