People take to medications as it is convenient for them and readily available and easy. Often the fear is so great that the victim becomes powerless to fight. He takes medication to cope with the symptoms instead of fighting the symptoms with mental therapy.

It is unfortunate that people take medications just to cope with the pain and suffering from panic attack instead of winning over it. The two main ingredients in use to suppress anxiety attack symptoms are benzodiazepines and selective serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). Results of these medications can be seen only after several weeks. Benzodiazepines shows, quicker results but must be taken several times a day. It is too expensive and has several bad side effects.

Doctors prescribe SSRIs and Benzodiazepines because they are quick relievers of panic attack symptoms. The bigger problem is that people want to cure a problem with medication which can be cured without any medication. The medication affords only temporary relief by suppressing the symptoms instead of solving the root cause of the problem.

Medication and therapy is not the only panacea for the problem. Proper guidance and direction with strong determination to improve mental health to be free from panic attacks is absolutely essential.
Mediations may kill the mind and render the person dependant on them resulting in loss of confidence to fight the problem on their own or in a different way.

Besides, these medications tend to lose their efficacy over time necessitating an increase in drug in take to lessen the symptoms over time.
