Where fear and anxiety are severe, people don’t even speak to a small group of people leave alone to a large crowd or audience. Actually fear is the villain of the piece. It is fear and anxiety that causes poor performance of the individual. Fear and public speaking is not at all uncommon in persons.

Healthy and average persons can well manage high amounts of stress and strain and can still perform well under pressure. A few more require practice to perform well under pressure. It is but natural to be afraid of speaking in public but that fear should not be linked to the fear of a possible panic attack while speaking when it becomes over bearing.

So, discard the fear of panic attack while speaking in public. When you can control your feelings during a panic attack, you need not fear ever again. Develop some coping techniques or learn to divert your mind away from fear to a control and repress fear.

I have always envied people who are successful and celebrated public speakers before large crows. They are highly professional and their attitude is carefree. The plus point with them is that their focus is not on themselves but on other people or on what they need to say.

Focus on yourself makes you subconscious, that causes high levels of anxiety triggering panic attacks. As the adage, ‘practice makes a man perfect’ points out, fear and anxiety can be brought under control through sheer practice and determined effort.
